The interaction between the spiritual world and our material reality has been documented since ancient times in many cultures. Diabolical possession is one of the clearest ways in which a spiritual entity manifests itself through a human being, so that it can speak, shout and attack. But there are also cases attested in the lives of the Saints in which a spiritual entity can manifest itself on a human being externally, without having to manifest itself in a possessed person. For example, there are Saints who were beaten by the devil, such as the Holy Curé of Ars, who was dragged down the stairs from his bed; Saint Gemma Galgani was also slapped, as was Saint Pio of Pietrelcina. And although the Church has never officially confirmed some of the more disturbing phenomena in the experience of exorcists, cases have been found of incubus or succubus demons, a type of fallen angel that has the capacity to sexually assault a woman (in the case of incubi) or a man (in the case of succubi). These kinds of manifestations are not very common and everything depends on God’s permission, but a person who thinks they are suffering from this should not think they are crazy; and although it is very difficult to find priests who believe in the possibility of these realities, there are in the Catholic Church specialized exorcists capable of fighting this kind of demonic manifestation. Hell is a reality and a truth divinely revealed in the Sacred Scriptures and defined in the councils by Holy Mother Church. More than a physical place, it is a state of spiritual beings who, endowed with freedom and understanding, refused to accept the divine will. The sufferings of hell consist above all in the despair of the total and definitive loss of that great infinite treasure who is our God; hell is therefore the absolute lack of any source of happiness or peace, it is living in a state of hatred toward God and everything that represents Him. Hell is an eternal punishment, that is, there is no turning back, so the person who is condemned has no possibility of leaving it. We say this because there are various beliefs that hold that at the end of time Satan will be forgiven by God and brought back into heaven. This is not possible, because hell does not depend on God but on the attitude of the creature, which the Creator scrupulously respects; therefore, to bring into heaven someone who hates Him with all their being would be to destroy the infinite dignity of the Maker. Spiritism is condemned in the Sacred Scriptures from the Old Testament onward, since all contact with the spiritual world is extremely dangerous, above all when it involves calling up the dead, because in most cases they are impersonated by demons, who through repeated contact lead the person to open their body to diabolical possession. Rock music can be described as the modern pulpit from which the prince of this world indoctrinates young people so that they open themselves to his influence, since it contains many invitations to the practice of satanism and to sexual depravity, and explicit invitations to suicide. Therefore, prolonged and fanatical listening to this kind of music will, in the long run, in young people with weak personalities, end up changing their behavior toward aggressive conduct, macabre ways of dressing and grotesque body modifications, which bear witness to a clear diabolical influence. If we look at it from the point of view of physical health, yoga exercises have nothing harmful about them; but as a method of seeking inner harmony, which requires a certain number of breaths, emptying the mind and repeating mantras (words that name a Hindu deity), as well as learning Hindu doctrines and philosophies, it is NOT licit for a Catholic to practice it, since the Hindu religion is one hundred percent idolatrous: it recognizes creatures as deities and goes against the truths of faith that every Catholic must believe and defend.

There is something to keep in mind, which for the moment is an unquestionable truth: homeopathy is certainly not a science, since no direct connection has been shown between the remedy given and the effect achieved. Homeopathy therefore still belongs more to the realm of herbalists and folk healers than to that of scientists. So the question here is this: if the effect caused by homeopathic medicines does not come from the chemical properties of the elements used, then that effect must be attributed either to suggestion or a psycho-cerebral reaction, or to a spiritual influence. If it is the first case, it is better to follow a treatment with neuropsychiatric specialists than to become guinea pigs in a pseudo-scientific experiment by people without method; and if it is the second case, that is, if a healing of a supernatural order is expected, then rather than expecting that effect from physical causes, all effort should be put into prayer, into trust in God and in the Servants of God who have the charism of healing. In short, we consider that homeopathy has too many unanswered questions for it to be prudent for a Catholic to make use of these arts, until there is a little more clarity about the origin and effects of homeopathic procedures.

Although Saint Raphael the Archangel says that he is one of the seven Archangels who stand before the throne of God (Tb 12:15), Sacred Scripture and Holy Mother Church recognize only the names of Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel and Saint Raphael. The rest of the Angels currently invoked come from apocryphal books, which are ancient books that tried to extend the biblical stories but are not inspired by the Holy Spirit; they are merely human doctrine. It has now been discovered that some names of Archangels promoted by the New Age are in fact names of demons; therefore great prudence is recommended in the use of images, holy cards and devotional articles that contain names other than those of Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel and Saint Raphael. Diabolical possession, although it is a reality found in the Gospels, is not as frequent today as infestation, oppression or diabolical obsession, because it normally requires the person to freely consecrate and hand himself over to Satan through a satanic pact. Therefore, what we recommend is that you read carefully our section “verdades crudas” (raw truths), in the part on Angels and Demons; read everything about how the devil attacks us, since the symptoms of possession are described there, and infestation, oppression and obsession are also defined. One test that can be done is to cook your child’s favorite dish, but to make it with water, oil and salt exorcised by a Priest; if, on tasting it, he rejects the food or reacts violently, it is a symptom of some spiritual presence or contamination. Bearing in mind that whenever God allows an evil spell to be effective it is because He is seeking to bring good out of that evil, before we begin to pray for a person whom we see affected by the spell, we must consider whether the good for which God allows its effectiveness has already been achieved. Many times God makes use of ruin and bankruptcy, of an illness or the death of a relative, or of any other calamity, so that a person far from God may change their attitude and begin to seek the reform of their habits and to draw closer to the Faith. Therefore, we recommend praying for the conversion of the person rather than for deliverance from the witchcraft afflicting them. Many Catholics not only attend reiki sessions but have set about learning this therapy, convinced that they are simply using the powers of nature and putting them at the service of those most in need, doing good in the name of God, sure that since they are invoking angelic or divine forces there can be nothing wrong with their treatments. What every Catholic must keep in mind is that reiki is far from being a demonstrable science; its theories therefore come only from the speculations of a Japanese Zen monk who claimed to have rediscovered an age-old healing technique after a spiritual retreat in which he reached his highest degree of enlightenment. From this we Catholics must ask ourselves: by whom was this pagan monk enlightened, by the Holy Spirit or by the spirit of darkness? For science accepts only the existence of energies such as electrical, static, atomic, etc. Now, the developers of reiki say that they use universal vital energies to achieve harmony between the person and the universe; so if these energies are not among those that science has discovered and can demonstrate, only one possibility remains: that they are spiritual energies, and of those there are only two kinds, angelic and diabolical, that is, those of good and those of evil. So, would God or the Angels of light lend themselves to letting their energies flow through passes of the hands? Certainly the laying on of hands appears in the Sacred Scriptures as one of the ways of transmitting the Holy Spirit and healing the sick, but in no way can it be considered a technique that can be learned or transmitted by mere human science. Moreover, Saint Paul warns in his letters that we must be careful on whom we lay hands, for we can be contaminated by the other person’s sin; therefore the practice of reiki is dangerous both for the one who practices it and for the one who allows hands to be laid on them.

Since every evil spell gets its effectiveness from conjuring or invoking Satan, granting him power to act on a third person so that he can torture and harm them, the action of breaking the spell must necessarily consist in invoking the strength of our Lord Jesus Christ, so that He may act in us at the moment we demand back from the devil, with authority, every power and right he has acquired over us, over our health, our belongings or our loved ones. It is vitally important for Catholics to understand that if the faith the sorcerer has in Satan is greater than the faith that the Catholic affected by the spell has in Jesus Christ, the breaking will very possibly not be effective, or at least not as effective as hoped. This can in no way be interpreted as meaning that the prince of this world has more power than Jesus Christ, but that the almighty strength of our God is limited by the little faith of the person who wants to be freed from the evil oppression. There are many prayers composed to make these breakings, some of which you can find in the section “LO QUE TE OFRECEMOS” (What we offer you), under PRAYERS; however, what matters is the faith, assurance and confidence with which the breaking is made, which can be of one’s own initiative or by modifying existing prayers to adapt them to the specific need, for let us remember that we are addressing a living, spiritual being, not a machine that needs a mathematical formula to stop. We must also consider that in the gospel the Lord always pointed to the lack of faith, prayer and sacrifice as the source of apostolic ineffectiveness in some cases of possession. Therefore we recommend offering fasts, penances and acts of faith as a worthy and effective preparation for any counteroffensive action against the devil. It goes without saying that the most effective action against every evil spell or diabolical incursion in our lives is the frequent use of the sacraments, especially confession and communion, together with the daily praying of the Holy Rosary. NOTE: Multiplying the number of prayers said will not speed up the process of deliverance, nor increase the effectiveness of those prayers. That is why we suggest focusing instead on multiplying acts of love for God and of trust in Him, rather than on prayers to repel the infernal forces.

ARE THERE EVIL SPELLS OF FINANCIAL RUIN? HOW CAN WE DEFEND OURSELVES AGAINST THEM?

Our Lord Jesus Christ said that one cannot serve God and money, thereby implicitly declaring that money has something opposed to God; that is, it is not one of the things that most easily lead to the Kingdom of Heaven. So much so that the Lord says it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a person devoted to the pursuit of wealth to enter the Kingdom of God. From all this it can be said that money belongs more to the prince of this world than to our God; therefore we cannot deny that the devil has power over the riches of this world (let us remember that he promised them all to Jesus if He would fall down and worship him), and here we can deduce that if our material goods do not have God’s blessing, Satan can easily sweep them away, as happened in the case of Job at the moment God withdrew His blessing. Having established, then, that according to the Sacred Scriptures spells of financial ruin can indeed occur in reality, let us describe some symptoms which in practice may lead us to suspect that we are affected by one of these spells:

SYMPTOMS OF A SPELL OF FINANCIAL RUIN:

Difficulty finding work or keeping the jobs one gets: this means that, assuming the competence and good performance of the person who believes they are affected (that is, that the problem does not come from carelessness or a lack of professionalism in their work), compared with all their co-workers the person notices that it is a constant in their life: the difficulty of getting new jobs or of staying more than 8 days in them. Physical disappearance of money, or money that does not go as far as it should: once the possibility that someone is stealing the money has been ruled out because of the security methods used, the person notices that the money physically ceases to exist, in part or in full, from one moment to the next, or that, having had the money in their pocket, they do not know what it was spent on. Note: cases have been detected in which, despite keeping a cash box hidden in a place known to only one person, the money disappeared completely or partially, and this phenomenon did not stop until a priest exorcised the cash box and anointed it with exorcised oil. Breakdown of household appliances: it is normal for an electrical appliance to break down from time to time, but when one is under the influence of a spell of ruin, the household appliances begin to break down or burn out systematically one after another, without any voltage fluctuations in the area, until one is left with practically no appliance in working order. A person who detects one of these 3 signs need not necessarily worry, since all logical possibilities must be ruled out before thinking that one is the victim of a spell of financial ruin. But if the person making this inquiry finds that all 3 signs have occurred, then it is time to put all their effort and dedication into the solutions we are going to propose:

HOW CAN WE DEFEND OURSELVES AGAINST A SPELL OF FINANCIAL RUIN?

SHIELDING ONE’S FINANCES:

To prevent Satan from continuing to feast on our material goods, we must obtain a blessing as great as the one Job had over his possessions, which made the devil say that he could not touch them until God lifted that blessing, Job 1:9: “Satan answered the Lord: Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not put a hedge around him, his house and all his possessions? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his flocks swarm over the land…”. This blessing of financial protection is obtained through the scrupulous payment of the TITHE. When we speak of the Tithe, we do not mean one day’s wage a year, which is what the Catholic Church has had to ask for because of the hardness of its faithful’s hearts, but one tenth of all income of any kind one may have, as God has required since the Old Testament: Malachi 3:8-10: “Can a man defraud God? Yet you are defrauding Me! And still you say: How have we defrauded You? In the tithe and in the reserved offering. You are under a curse, because you are defrauding Me, the whole nation of you. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My House; and put Me to the test in this, says the Lord of hosts, and see if I do not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out on you blessing until there is no more need, and drive away from you the devourer, so that he does not destroy the fruit of your soil, and your vine in the field does not stay barren, says the Lord of hosts.” As we can deduce from this text, the Lord makes His protective blessing and the driving away of the devourer, that is, Satan, depend on the Tithe. It can also be clearly seen that whoever is not receiving this superabundant blessing from heaven, so that they lack nothing for daily life, has a debt of Tithes to our God; hence we must all strive to pay the Tithe and, as far as possible, even make up for what should have been given in past years. Many Catholics ask to whom the Tithe should be given: the Tithe is ordained by God to support those who consecrate themselves to Him and the poor in need, that is, to support the works of charity that the Church carries out through Religious, Priests, institutions such as Caritas, and other institutions, as can be seen in the following texts: Deuteronomy 14, in several verses, speaks of the tithe: “You shall set aside the tithe of all that your seed produces in your fields,… You shall exchange it for money, carry the money in your hand and go to the place chosen by the Lord your God…” Numbers 35: “Command the Israelites to give the Levites, from the inheritance that belongs to them…” II Chronicles 31:5: He commanded the people living in Jerusalem to hand over the portion due to the priests and Levites, so that they might devote themselves to the Law of the Lord. When this order was spread abroad, the Israelites brought in abundance the first fruits of grain, wine, oil and honey and of all the produce of the field; they likewise brought in abundance the tithe of everything. Nehemiah 10:38-40: The best of our grinding, of the fruit of every tree, of the wine and of the oil, we will bring to the priests, to the chambers of the House of our God. Acts 4:34: “There was no one needy among them, for all who owned fields or houses sold them, brought the proceeds of the sale and laid them at the feet of the apostles, and it was distributed to each according to his need.”

GRATITUDE

Many Catholics, like the 9 Lepers who were healed, forget to give thanks for the goods received from the hand of God (food, health, work, prosperity), which causes that indignation of Jesus when He asks where the other 9 who were also healed are (Lk 17:17). Hence we strongly recommend to our readers that they frequently have Holy Masses of Thanksgiving celebrated for all the favors received from our Heavenly Father, especially at special moments such as the birth of a child, getting a job, opening a business, buying a home or a vehicle, etc., taking this opportunity to give a Tithe or offering that represents, before the eyes of God, the value we place on the Gift received.

PRAYERS OF PROTECTION AND BREAKING

The third stage in protecting ourselves from the spell of financial ruin, or in breaking it, is to recite prayers of breaking, some of which you will find in our prayers section. What we will point out here is that what matters is not the number of prayers but the intensity with which one prays. Let us remember that the intensity of faith in Christ must be greater than the faith the sorcerer has in Satan. We also recommend praying over the money one receives, since it has been found that material things can acquire a certain spiritual contamination according to the sinful purpose for which they have been used. This opinion can be held theologically on the basis of the passage in Genesis in which God says to Adam: “Cursed is the ground because of you, Adam”. Hence money that other owners have used to commit sins such as homicide, or to pay for prostitution, pornography, extortion, bribes, etc., also acquires that curse of God, which can make the situation of people affected by a spell of financial ruin even more difficult.

To understand this complex fact of our history, we must keep two principles in mind:

1. That God is infinitely just and rewards every good work a human being does in their life. And 2. That even men without Faith, and even wicked men, do good works, at least for those whom it suits them to benefit. So: when God, in His omniscience, sees that a man who has done good works is going to die in sin and will therefore not merit heaven, the Lord proceeds to reward that man’s good works in this life by giving him great financial prosperity, since in the next life He will only be able to send him to suffering, want and eternal misery.

On the other hand, as for His faithful who walk in His presence in this life, remembering and keeping His commandments, it is very common for the Lord to visit them with hardship and even financial want during their lives in this valley of tears, since He will reward them with eternal treasures that cannot be bought with any riches of this world; hence the phrase from the book of Song of Songs 8:7: “If someone wanted to buy love with all the wealth of his house, he would be despised.”
